All absences must be reported through Skyward Family Access. This short video will provide you with instructions on how to enter an absence for your child.  Once you log into Skyward Family Access, select the “Attendance” tile to enter an absence.

Documentation such as doctors notes for absences can also be uploaded through Skyward.  NEW for the 2024 - 2025 school year: Notes for absences can be attached to the absence request at the time of submission or up to 3 days after the absence. This can be done by uploading the note when submitting the request or by navigating to the “Absence Requests” tab and selecting the absence that has already been submitted and selecting edit.

If you have a supporting document for the absence after the absence has been created, open the absence request and select “Attachments” in the upper right corner.

You can then upload your documentation to the request by clicking “Add Attachments”.

Once you have uploaded the file(s), select “Save” and close the window.

Any absences or early release requests submitted for the same day will be accepted prior to 3:00 pm through Skyward.  Students will not be released to walk-ups requests after 3:40 pm until dismissal at 4:10 pm.  Any doctor’s notes or other documentation for the absences must be received within 3 days after the student returns to school.

Attendance Accounting

Students must be present in school by 10:00 a.m. in order to be counted present for purposes of reporting attendance to the state. Student attendance is taken in each class daily. Students must be in attendance the majority of the school day in order to participate in school-related activities on that day or evening.

Attendance Committee

If a student does not meet compulsory attendance requirements, the campus attendance committee will review the circumstances, using the guidelines at Board Policy FEC(Local), to determine whether the student will receive credit. Please contact Assistant Principal Keitha St Clair (stclairk@ltisdschools.org if you would like an appeal form.

Early Release

If you would like to pick up your child early, please enter your early release in the Skyward app, and during the day, send your student to the office to obtain a pass.  There will be no early releases after 3:40 pm. Thank you!

Family Travel

As you finalize your plans, you should carefully consider Texas compulsory attendance laws. According to the Texas Education Code Section 25.085(a) Compulsory School Attendance: A child who is required to attend school under this section shall attend school each school day for the entire period the program of instruction is provided. Our most detailed resource for attendance accounting is the Student/Parent Handbook. The handbook identifies what is considered excused absences and the supporting documentation that is required to excuse those absences.  Whether an absence is considered excused is governed by Board Policy and state law and will be considered on a case by case basis. Please submit any supporting documentation for absences to the front office so that your student’s attendance may be coded correctly.

Additionally, please contact the following if you have further questions regarding a prolonged absence of your student:

  • Assistant Principal Keitha St Clair (stclairk@litsdschools.org) 7th grade (L-Z), 8th grade or
  • Assistant Principal Cristy Rizzoli (rizzolic@ltisdschools.org) 6th grade, 7th grade (A-K)

Religious Holy Days
